We handle your personal data in line with the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, where applicable, the EU GDPR. You can change your cookie choices at any time via the “Manage Cookies” link in the footer.
1. Who we are
This Privacy & Cookie Policy explains how Bachata Geneva Festival ("BGF", "we", "us"), an association based at Avenue de l’Étang 56, 1219 Châtelaine, Geneva, Switzerland, collects and uses your personal data when you visit bachatagenevafestival.com or take part in the Festival. For any privacy question or request, contact us at info@bachatagenevafestival.com.
2. The data we collect
- Identity and contact details: name, email, and any phone number, country, or other details you provide when you sign up, apply to a program, or contact us.
- Ticketing and participation: information related to your registration and passes. Tickets are sold by our provider Go&Dance, who shares the attendee details we need to manage your participation.
- Program-specific data: ambassador, artist, or accommodation applications, including preferences and, where relevant, a signature you provide electronically.
- Communications: the content of messages you send us, and your newsletter and marketing preferences.
- Technical and usage data: IP address, device and browser information, and how you interact with the site, collected through cookies and similar technologies (see the cookies section below).
- Images and recordings: photos and videos captured at the Festival, as described in our Terms & Conditions.
3. How we use your data & legal bases
- To manage your participation and provide what you asked for (performance of a contract).
- To send service messages about your tickets, the program, and practical information (performance of a contract, and our legitimate interest in running the event).
- To send newsletters and marketing, based on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
- To measure and improve the website through analytics, based on your consent via the cookie banner.
- To keep the site and event secure and to prevent fraud or abuse (our legitimate interest).
- To comply with legal obligations, such as accounting and safety requirements.
4. Cookies & tracking
On your first visit, a banner lets you accept or refuse non-essential cookies and tracking. You can change your choice at any time via the "Manage Cookies" link in the footer. We use the following categories:
- Strictly necessary: required for the site to work and to remember your cookie choice. These are always on, and your consent preference is stored locally in your browser.
- Analytics (with consent): Vercel Analytics, to understand site usage in aggregate.
- Marketing (with consent): the Meta (Facebook) Pixel and Google Tag Manager, which may set advertising cookies and let us measure campaigns. With your consent, we also send some event data to Meta server-side (Conversions API) to measure ad performance.
If you refuse or later withdraw marketing consent, these tools are not loaded, or are instructed to stop; reloading the page clears any scripts already loaded during the session.
5. Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers ("processors") that help us run the Festival and the website, under appropriate agreements:
- Go&Dance: ticketing and registration.
- Vercel: website hosting, file storage, and basic analytics.
- Resend: sending transactional and newsletter emails.
- Notion: managing applications and event data internally.
- Meta and Google: advertising and measurement, only with your marketing consent.
- Mapbox: displaying maps, such as the ambassador map.
We may also disclose data where required by law or to protect our rights, safety, or property.
6. International transfers
Some of these providers are based outside Switzerland and the EU/EEA, including in the United States. Where your data is transferred abroad, we rely on the data protection commitments and safeguards these providers offer in their own terms. If you have questions about a specific provider, contact us at info@bachatagenevafestival.com.
7. How long we keep your data
We keep personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes described above and to meet legal, accounting, or safety obligations, after which it is deleted or anonymized. Newsletter data is kept until you unsubscribe. If you would like your data removed sooner, contact us at info@bachatagenevafestival.com.
8. Your rights
Under the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, where applicable, the EU GDPR, you have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict certain processing, to withdraw consent at any time, and to data portability.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at info@bachatagenevafestival.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) or, in the EU, your local supervisory authority.
9. Children
We do not knowingly collect data from children beyond what is needed to administer family participation. Where registration involves a minor (for example a child under 12 registered to attend), it must be carried out by a parent or legal guardian. See the age policy in our Terms & Conditions.
10. Data security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal data against loss, misuse, and unauthorized access. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and review our measures.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy & Cookie Policy from time to time. The date below shows when it was last updated; we will communicate significant changes where appropriate.
